What were the main developments in international trade in steel during the period 1983 to 1993? Providing a statistical analysis of these on an area by area basis, this publication outlines the impact of the multiple changes in the world order on world trade in steel. The collapse of the CMEA, for example, led to a breakdown in the favoured trading links between former Eastern bloc countries and a significant increase in exports to non CMEA countries. The emergence of new dynamic economies with rapidly expanding steelmaking capacity and production levels also altered the pattern of steel trade flows. This publication updates the picture given in World Steel Trade Development 1960-1983.
